H3 Biomedicine is applying the expertise of leading scientists to the integration of insights from cancer genomics with innovative capabilities in synthetic chemistry and tumor biology to pursue the most promising current opportunity in cancer therapeutics. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated medicinal chemist to join our research team located in Cambridge, MA. The ideal candidate is a medicinal chemist with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and cancer biology, and who is driven to succeed within a hypothesis-driven, team-oriented and multi-disciplinary biotech environment. The individual will be expected to contribute to all stages of drug discovery programs, advancing small molecules from hit identification to development candidate selection. This role will lead a team that consists of both internal employees and external (CRO) partners, and will report to the VP of Chemistry.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead medicinal chemistry efforts for genetically validated oncology targets to clear decision points
  • Assist in the development of medicinal chemistry strategy; execute said strategy independently, effectively managing multiple priorities under time and resource pressures
  • Prioritize medicinal chemistry activities, managing both internal and external chemistry resources to ensure timeline adherence and project alignment with company goals
  • Lead the design, plan and execution of multi-step syntheses of high quality small molecules for biological screening
  • Build, critically interpret and react to structure activity relationships incorporating physicochemical properties and pharmacological function readouts
  • Possess a clear and effective communication style to disseminate project data and medicinal chemistry approach to both internal colleagues and external collaborators
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues in chemistry, structural biology, target compound profiling, biology and pharmacology
  • Lead the preparation of patent documents, peer reviewed scientific publications and regulatory documents as appropriate
  • Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, comply with all H3 safety requirements

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with at least 10 years of experience working pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology setting as a medicinal chemist
  • Demonstrated leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery as evidenced by a strong record of scientific accomplishment utilizing cross functional information
  • Proven ability to manage timelines and resources to drive projects toward key decision criteria
  • Strong synthetic chemistry and an exposure to the fundamental concepts and tools of structure based drug design as applied to drug discovery programs
  • Keen attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency is required as is the desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and team-focused environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding synthetic chemistry and a demonstrated track record of aptitude and problem solving in medicinal chemistry
